Maple Syrup - Gathering Pt. 2

We are going to get some cold weather below freezing, so we have to gather all the sap from the buckets. If we left the sap in the buckets, there is a risk the ice would split the bucket and cause a leak. We gathered about 1/4 of the woods and when we brought it back to the shack we tested it with a sap hydrometer to see how much sugar was in it. It said it barely had 1% sugar content meaning that with this sap, it would take 100 gallons to make one gallon of syrup. Since the buckets still needed to be emptied, we went around the woods and dumped all of them on the ground.
