Today I came up to the farm and fed the barn cats. I opened up all the barn doors again to bring fresh air in the barn, and then I threw down 4 square bales of hay. I walked the bales out to the feeder and threw them in for the cows to eat. I got the hoses out and started filling water tanks, and while they filled I scraped off all the poop and straw in the barnyard so water will drain and it will dry up. I swept up the barn floor inside and then after the tanks finished filling I blew out the hoses and hung them up. I came home and stoked the fire in the wood burner and then I dumped a bucket of ash in the garden. Later we went back to the woods and drained the front pans into milk cans. My dad and I started to wash buckets and pull spiles from the trees. We wash the buckets with the sap that is in them with a brush which helps scrub off any build up. We flip them upside down on a branch or root so they can dry and then we pull the spiles with a hammer. My sisters and mom took the lids off the trees and set them in stacks along the trail. They went around and loaded up the lids into some crates we had back there. My dad and I kept washing buckets until dark and then we came home. We have maybe 125 buckets left to do tomorrow. I went up to the farm when we got home and I closed up the barn doors and fed some more hay. I put the 6 crates of lids in the barn and then came back home. I fixed the fire with 20 pieces of wood for the night.
Another successful season!!
